When Strawbridge's closed up shop a few years ago, the new Macy's at 13th and Chestnut Street took over the holiday tradition of Dickens Village. I had never been to the one at Strawbridge's, but thought it might be nice to go now that I have a little person. Speaking of my little person, he was sick early in the weekend and by Sunday was demanding to be let out of the house (so demanding these toddlers are), so I thought it was as good a time as any to visit Dickens Village.
Of course, my suggestion is if you're thinking about going and could swing going during the week, do it. Not surprisingly, the display is very crowded on the weekends. We waited in line for about 40 minutes, but I'm glad we did.
It only takes about 15-20 minutes to walk through the Village, but my son was intrigued by the animated figurines the whole time. Plus, and I think this is new this year, you can take your picture with Santa at the end of the tour. The craftsmanship of the Village is beautiful so intricate I can't help but wonder if they leave the Village up all year, just closed off to the public.
The show runs daily from 10 am until 7pm through December 24th.
