My eleven-month old son just loves the book Goodnight Philadelphia, one in a series called Goodnight Our World by Adam Gamble. The book highlights many areas in Philly, like the Philadelphia Zoo, the Schuykill River and the National Constitution Center. I received this as a gift at my shower and I liked it so much, I've already purchased it for several other people who have had babies in the area. But there are lots of other cities and locations in the series and so it makes a great gift for even those who may live further away.
Since the time my son was about 6 months old, we read him mainly board books, as he would tear the pages out of regular books. So Goodnight Philadelphia is one that's in our regular rotation, but what I find interesting that my son has starting "reading" this book on his own. If he sees it on the couch or on the coffee table, he'll grab it, sit down and flip the pages, studying each one as he goes. He'll do this for a good 10 minutes or so. And any book that on it's own merit that can hold a baby's attention for that long is A-okay in my book (heh).
